Midas Hotel Manila: Overnight Stay Review

Since we checked in at Aloha Hotel for Black Saturday, I was looking for another hotel where we could celebrate an Easter party the next day and the only place that offered a convenient time for us was Midas Hotel, plus their tickets were reasonably priced (P999 good for 1 kid and 1 adult). I will blog about this soon.

Midas Hotel was like a breath of fresh air for us. From doorman to bellboy to reception, every one was very accommodating that gave us a positive impression. It also gave me the impression that we will be taken care of in this place.

I booked our stay from Agoda.com and I selected a twin bed room without breakfast. We arrived at 12:30PM, quite early from the normal check-in time of 2PM. Since I requested our bed to be changed from twin to king bed to the receptionist, we waited for a room to be available. We went to the lobby lounge where we were given complimentary welcome drinks.

Complimentary "Welcome Drinks" from Midas Hotel.
I'm not sure if it's standard procedure for them to give welcome drinks to their guests or if it's because I booked via Agoda that we were provided complimentary drinks, but still, it was a nice treat. The drinks are also safe for kids because the attendant told us it was just Sprite and lemonade.

Midas Hotel: Coffee and Cake
Cappuccino and Opera Cake from the Lobby Lounge
Since I was a bit sleepy from the terrible experience we've had last night at the Aloha Hotel, I ordered a nice cup of cappuccino and a slice of Opera cake from the Lounge. Oh, it was such a delight.

I took a quick picture of the wonderful cakes that they were offering. Feast your eyes with these desserts (See pic above).

Our room was already available at 1:30 PM and we were delighted because we still have time to settle in and relax before we go to the Easter Party at 3PM.

Upon entering the room, our kids' eyes just glowed. They were amazed with the cleanliness and amenities of the room especially the bed.

Midas Hotel: Deluxe Room Review
Midas Hotel Deluxe Room
I really love that rattan chair (with stool). I'm not sure what it's called. It's very comfortable to sit on. In fact, it's where I spent 60% of my time during our stay at the hotel while I was using my laptop.

Midas Hotel: Handy Travel Buddy
Travel Buddy
This is the first time we have seen a mobile "travel buddy." It was sitting on the table waiting for it to be discovered. It's basically a mobile phone designed to help the hotel's guests to navigate the city. It tells you the best places where to hang out, where to eat, where to take your kids, etc. We weren't able to try it out because we had no intention of leaving the hotel to wander. It's most suited for travelers who want to explore the city.

Midas Hotel Cares for its Guests
Midas Hotel Special Touch
This is something which is a really big plus for me. Among all the hotels we've stayed, this is the very first time I saw a convenient message that informs us that we can request diapers, napkins, adaptor, or even condoms by calling their concierge. Their prices are reasonable, too. The napkins back in Aloha Hotel were more expensive! Jeez. Oh, and there's another message that our room attendant's name is Matt and we should call him if we need anything. Now that's a special touch.

Midas Hotel Bathroom
We love the minimalist bathroom because it's equipped with a nice bath tub (with safety handles on the sides), detachable shower rose, telephone, complete bath amenities (shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, bath gel, dental set, and vanity kit) with hair dryer. There was also a sign that says to conserve water. We really do love hotels that care for the environment.

To sum it all up, here are the pros and cons of the hotel that we observed:

Pros:
  • All the staff from the door man to reception to guard to housekeeping (everyone!) were all very accommodating. I love it.
The message that says we can request sanitary napkins/diapers/adaptor at the concierge is a big plus for me.
  • Clean and comfy king-sized bed. Their pillows were also soft and comfortable, as well as big in size.
  • Big flat screen TV with clear cable reception (Cartoon Network and Animax present). Not sure about the size, probably about 40 or 50 inches width;  big enough to impress the kids.
  • Complimentary coffee, tea, and water.
  • Complimentary slippers.
  • Free fast WIFI
  • Centralized air conditioning.
  • Complete complimentary bath amenities (bath robes, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, vanity kit, etc.) plus a bathtub that our youngest enjoyed so much.
  • Strong water (with consistent hot and cold water)
  • Room service was available 24 hours.
  • Even if the hotel was located at a busy road, the room was quiet enough to give us a good night's rest.
  • Gave us that "hotel feel" that we were looking for.
Midas Hotel King Size Bed
I really love their comfortable bed!

Cons:
  • Just noticed a few chips at the bottom of the wooden bathroom door which is probably a result from use or probably even getting wet over the years.
  • No nearby malls. I did saw a Ministop convenience store just a few blocks away from the hotel if you need to buy some minor groceries and stuff.
--------------
For couples or families looking for a quick getaway in the metro with a reasonable price, I really recommend Midas Hotel. They also have a good deal at Metrodeal.com where you can purchase an overnight stay for only around P3,000++.  I'd have to say this is a 5-star hotel with a 3-star price for me.
