SM City BF Paranaque Opens!

Last November 29, 2013 was the grand opening of SM City BF Paranaque. As a resident of BF Homes, I felt that I was obliged to go to this place and see what's inside :)  Besides, it's just one tricycle ride/jeepney ride away.

This sight is really mesmerizing.

The Department Store (Kids Section): The dresses here are so nice.

Yup! That's my son already canvassing the gifts he would want to receive on Christmas day.

Ninja Turtles are one of his favorite toys and you can really tell.

Quite small waiting area for people planning to watch a movie.

Yes! Hooray for Breastfeeding rooms! It makes breastfeeding easier for BF mommies like me.

They sell great chocolate cakes here

That's all the pictures I have. I wasn't able to take pictures of establishments such as Krispy Kreme, Japanese Donuts, Auntie Anne's, National Bookstore, and the typical fastfood chains such as Jollibee, KFC, Chowking, Burger King, Pizza Hut, etc. I was quite disheartened not seeing Mister Donut or Dunkin Donuts around because I was planning to take home some at that time.

Well, the place is still young, but it's a nice place to go if you want to go "malling." Though some stores are not yet open such as Starbucks and J. Co Donuts, the place is still worth checking out.

UPDATES (1/22/2014)
  • Starbucks is already open.
  • Mary Grace restaurant is open.
  • Krispy Kreme is open.
  • Toho Restaurant seems to be one of the crowd's favorite restos.
  • Vikings buffet will be opening soon.
  • Still more high-end stores will be opening.

Short Cake Review: Mango Chantily Cake by Goldilocks

I like this Mango Chantily cake. It has a fair amount of mango bits and cream, and it has mango marshmallows. I like this cake better than butter cream cakes.Best of all, the price for the whole cake is only P390!  Yup, I could have bought that greeting cake from Red Ribbon worth P299, but this mango cake looks a bit more festive and special.

FOODPORT 2013

The UP students are at it again! This time, it's the UP Industrial Engineering Club, a duly recognized organization based in the University of the Philippines – Diliman College of Engineering,  who is organizing a fundraising event called FOODPORT 2013! It's a food fair for cuisines from different countries and cultures.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the UP IE Club Scholarship Fund, our which sends bright but underprivileged students through college.

The picture pretty much says it all. The event will be held beside Christ the King Church along Greenmeadows Avenue. on November 30 to December 1, 2013 only from 6am to 10PM.

I am deeply saddened that I won't be able to cover the event because I'm not available on those dates, but I'm sure it will be a blast just like the recently concluded Foodgasm III event.

Tous Les Jours' Monster Cake

Last October 31, I was having a hard time deciding where to buy the perfect Halloween cake for my family. There were plenty of choices actually. Fortune, Goldilocks, Tous Les Jours, etc. In the end, I chose Tous Les Jours because of the name and because I had a voucher from Deal Grocer :P

Tous Les Jours' Blue Monster Cake -
Chocolate chiffon covered in buttercream
When I first saw the cake, my first reaction was, "Hmm...it's a bit small." I placed a ruler on top of it and it only measures almost 7 inches.

Chocolate chiffon with choco filling.
The inside is very similar to their bear cake which was quite disappointing for me.

The taste was so-so. Nothing much to brag about - only the design. I told myself not never to buy any cakes with butter cream icing on them.

What really made me sad was their price of P698! It's sooo expensive! At this price, I should have bought a 12x12 chocolate cake from Goldilocks or a regular sized Black Forest from Red Ribbon or better yet, a Mango Bravo from Contis'! *sigh* Sorry, Tous Les Jours. I love your store and I love your bread and pastries, but for this particular cake, it's a thumbs down for me.

Nissin's Creamy Carbonara: A Quick Fix for Carbonara Cravings

So far, this is the best tasting instant carbonara noodles I've tasted or maybe this is the only one around.  Whenever I crave for some carbonara and I only have 20 pesos in my pocket, Nissin's Creamy Carbonara is way to go. One pack only costs P10.00.

This is NOT a paid advertisement. I'm sharing this from my own personal experience.

Tous Les Jour's Chocolate Waffle

Okay, before we go trick or treating this afternoon in our village, I decided to blog about this chocolate waffle from Tous les Jours that I'm currently eating. It's sooo good! I was expecting the waffle to be the typical soft bread waffle, but it's not! The whole waffle is sugar glazed which made it a wee bit crunchy on the outside and then soft and yummy on the inside. The delicious chocolate filling made it even better!

Yup, I do believe they truly sell authentic and fresh breads everyday. This waffle really made my day.

For P48 pesos only, you can enjoy a delicious and authentic 5-inch waffle only from Tous les Jours!

Unli Drinks?

I just wanted to share that my big brother's 38th  birthday was yesterday. I was shocked to see how much drinks that was displayed in our sala. Then he told me that he bought all the drinks because he was always frustrated when there's only one choice of soda or juice to be selected so on his birthday, he decided to buy all the drinks that he ever wanted. That's a good point I should say. :)

Dinner at Rio: Bento and Maki House in BF Homes

Thanks once more to Beeconomic.com.ph,, we were able to eat in one of BF Homes' modest Japanese stores with a good value for money. This was the promo that I bought:

Dizon Farms Fruit Juice

It's true that great finds often come from unexpected places and that's what happened to me when I tasted Dizon Farm's fruit juice just inside Robinson's Supermarket in Pergola Mall (BF Homes).

I was a bit thirsty at the time, but I wanted something refreshing. I thought of milk tea, but my money is only P50 so it wasn't enough because milk teas usually range from P55 and up. I thought of black gulaman for P10 only from a local stand, but it wasn't filling enough.

Snack Time in Size Matters (Closed)

Thanks to Beeconomic.com.ph,  I got another cool deal that saved me P250 pesos for a P500-peso worth of food and drinks in Size Matters! There's a Size Matters branch just walking distance from our residence so I bought the deal immediately.

Mary Grace's Chocolate Cake and Tous Les Jours' Cutie Bear Cake

Yesterday was my son's 6th birthday and he got 2 cakes sponsored by his aunt Cheryl. She got a Mary Grace chocolate cake and a cutie bear cake from Tous Les Jour.

Mary Grace Moist Chocolate Cake (P635)
The colored sprinkles (P15) and the Ninjago cake toppings (P75) were bought from a local baking supplies near our area. As for the rest of the decor, I think she bought it from Mary Grace store.
A moist chocolate cake covered in chocolate frosting and layered in between with a creamy custard filling. The custard filling actually made the cake taste good. It is indeed quite moist and it's not too sweet.
Tous Les Jours' Cutie Bear Cake (P498)
Quite a small-sized cake approximately around 6 or 7 inches in diameter.  The "Happy Birthday" candles were bought from Daiso store (88-peso store).
It tasted good, but not that moist. If you want a moist choco cake, then I'm sure Red Ribbon or Goldilocks' chocolate dedication cakes are sure winners for the same or lesser price.
Happy 6th birthday, anak!

After letting the cakes stay in the fridge overnight, I checked both cakes and I appreciated Mary Grace's cake even more. I can taste the chocolate better and it's still quite moist:

We can actually see the difference of the two cakes and it's quite obvious which one is more chocolatey :)
The Tous Les Jours Cutie Bear cake already tasted a bit dry while the Mary Grace cake still maintained its moistness and rich chocolatey flavor.
